Wireless broadband plans

I was doing some searches to find out all the available wireless broadband plans around the bay area. I have tried using it in HK and it seemed to be a good idea for people on the go. Basically, the idea is to have a 3g/4g usb stick to become the internet connection entry, that way you can have internet access anywhere. Below is the pricing info I have found as of Jan 19th, 2011. These are all monthly plans. ...

Living an awesome life

Life has its ups and downs. Neil Pasricha gave his thoughts on how to live an awesome life. He is an ordinary person just like me and you, yet his positive thinking is very inspiring. Get to know the other side

Elizabeth Lesser gave a really good talk on getting to know people that we have often personally stereotyped. Our tendency to “other-ize” people in our lives may leave us in the dark what is really going on in other people’s lives. Also another good point she made was that we often draw the family circle line too small, family here means our immediate community. This video is worth a watch. ...

finding a song online

Say you just listened to a song on the radio, say it’s lady gaga’ bad romance. Now you want it badly. You probably will just search for it on youtube and the like. But say the government took out all of the lady gaga’s music video links on youtube. What do you do? Surely there are other ways, but you probably won’t spend that much time googling around. Introducing Fizy. The website design is extremely simple, at first I thought the site was too busy it only gave me half of its page. Just type in lady gaga in the search bar and viola! lady gaga’s songs show up. You can then listen to them with one click. You can even sign up for an account and make your own playlists. It’s an amazing service you cannot pass. Try it out! ...

chopping up a video file

There are often file size limits when using any free video hosting services. In my case, I had a 2 Gb mpeg file that I need to chop into two halves. It sounds like a very easy thing to do, but I couldn’t find a way to actually “chop” up the file. Below is how I did it in a copy-and-paste fashion. First download VirtualDub. Oh, and if possible you really want to run this program on a fast computer. Time is precious as always. ...

converting flv files

I was trying to upload a flv file to my smugmug area but failed. Even though the smugmug wiki page says it allows flv files, all upload methods failed on me. The html5 uploader will give a warning and stops, the java uploader will not allow you to pick any flv files, while the ole faithful uploader will allow you to upload any files but I was stuck at the “image processing” icon forever. ...

A call to men

“My liberation as a man is tied to your liberation as a woman.” Tony Porter argues that we all are trying too hard to conform ourselves to the social stereotypes of men and of women, to the point where lives are twisted. For example, men are too afraid to show their emotion, and that they try to become dominant. Besides these, he gave a lot more examples in his talk. ...

Volunteering in HK

I came across this website while doing some searches on volunteering opportunities in Hong Kong. I think it’s quite up-to-date coz I found one of the events I wanted to join missing after one day!!! Check it out if you have time! This one seems to be a big one in Hong Kong, coz they got a nice website. ;) There is another one called Hands On Hong Kong. This organization gears toward bilingual people. Their English calendar is more updated than their Chinese one. ...

The Confessions

Would you ever confess over something you have never done? Of course not! Why would you? Now, what if I tell you there were four innocent men confessed to a brutal crime which they had nothing to do with? They were all fine men in their right minds. However, one by one they told confessions to fit whatever the current crime theory was. Even when the actual murderer came forward and confessed he acted alone, these four men continued to testify in court admitting to the crime. The DNA tests came out negative on these four men as well. ...

google voice on a new phone

I live in California, using at&t. In my case, recently I got a new iphone 4 to replace my old iphone 3g. The transition has been smooth even though I lost all settings from my individual apps. But, the one thing that caught my attention is google voice. Now, I am not blaming any party here, since it’s always technically challenging to have two companies involved in one device. btw, I am referring to the phone service, not the gv app. When some people call my at&t number they get a “phone not in service” error message, same error when calling my gv number. However, some other people are fine calling me. Strange… ...
