Are we in control of our decisions?

Do you believe that you often make the best decisions? I think deep down inside we believe that, or at least we have no reasons to believe otherwise. Dan Ariely challenges this belief and argues that we are often misled to think that we are the one who makes the best choice. It’s not all talk because he has many examples to show us. Don’t miss out on this one. This is a 17 min video from TED. ...

Google I/O

Oh my gosh! For all you programmers out there, you got to check out the google I/O videos where they introduced new apps and stuff. At least, you got to see the Google Wave video. I think that will revolutionize the way we email, blog, and do online communication and collaboration in general. Google I/O Keynote Day 1 [youtube &hl=en&fs=1] ...

Is more expensive gas better?

As gas price is going up again, I often wonder if the name brand gas I am paying for is justified. Does a less-known gas station sell “dirty gas” or “bad gas”? If you have the same question, you may be interested to read this article 10 Things Gas Stations Won’t Tell You. Suppliers share pipelines, so they all use the same fuel. And the difference between the most expensive brand-name gas and the lowliest gallon of no-brand fuel? Often just a quart of detergent added to an 8,000-gallon tanker truck. ...

Napster $5 per month

Most of you know already that Napster rolled out this $5 per month plan a week ago. I have been pretty skeptical about it for a while until I have done some research on it today. So far I believe this is the best deal you can find today… unless you do p2p. Yeah, unlimited streaming of particular songs, this surely beats pandora or the like. $5 to download 5 mp3 songs? That’s the market price. I don’t see any ripoff here. I then proceeded to sign up and found out that I have been a member with them since my college days… haha, those were the good old days. I had trouble using the online music player, but after installing the windows executable it worked perfectly fine. Man, music keeps me awake at home and at work, much better than coffee! Give it a try! ...

What should I do with this amount of money?

What should I do with this amount of money? Greetings in the name of God, I am Mrs. Jada Al-Fadhli, a citizen of Kuwait but at present residing in the United Kingdom. I was married to Late Naadir Al-Fadhli of blessed memory who was an oil explorer in Kuwait and Sao Tome & Principe for twelve years before he died in the year 2005. We were married for twelve years without a child; he died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days. Since his death I too have been battling with both Cancer and fibroid problems. When my late Husband was alive he deposited a substantial amount of money worth GBP $12,500,000.00– (Twelve Million, Five Hundred Thousand Great British Pounds) with a bank in the United Kingdom which I inherited after his death. ...

Francis Chan - Balance Beam

Wow… This is a very short yet challenging message for me and yo’all Christians out there. I have heard of the name Francis Chan before but I just recently saw one of his message videos, and man what an analogy regarding how the majority of the Christians live nowadays in America! If you are not a Christian, this could also be challenging to you as well. Very so often we challenge our kids to dream big, and to live a life worth living for and so forth. But, I just wonder if we can really use our lives as examples while doing all the preaching. ...

Q3' 2009

Don’t be fooled by the recent ridiculous rally. The more and more I am convinced that the market does not reflect the health of the current economy. With the trillion national debt, high unemployment rate, weak retail profit, weak real estate, there is no way a recovery will be coming anytime soon. I am not being pessimistic, but just realistic. Look at the graph here: chartoftheday.com The S&P 500 companies are losing money. Thus the explanation to the rally is that: ...

Wolfram Alpha

Recently, WolframAlpha has been making some noise saying it can perform better searches than google. From what I understand, WolframAlpha claims to understand the words you type into the search bar, thus returning better search results, whereas google will only search your words literally with its PageRank algorithm. Say for example, if you type in “short CEO”, WolframAlpha will give you the info on the short CEO such as his name, his business, and so forth, while google will give you anything related to your search words. ...
