This is how to cancel a Wells Fargo check as of Sept 21, 2011.
- Login to your WF account.
- Click “Account Services”, it’s among the top tabs the 5th one counting from the left.
- On the next page, Under “Account Services”, find “Stop Payment on a Check”, should be the 9th link.
- Then just follow the steps.
You will need to have the info on the check #, the amount, payable to, and signed date.
Update: It turns out there is a STOPPING PAYMENT FEE of $29… =(
Thanks

Will a stopped wells fargo check appear to the recipient as (1) insufficient funds (2) stopped check (3) something more vague?

The fee is now $31. The WORST part, though, is that the check is only cancelled for SIX MONTHS!!! What a rip off!

What a rip off! I sent my daughter a check and she never received it. So I inquired about what to do because I was worried that somebody might try to cash it. Now I find out that it cost me $31 and after 6 months it will be active again. Really! They don’t tell you these things. 🤬
